Kelly Rowland Has Started Recording Her Fifth Album Despite Not Having A Record Deal

Kelly Rowland is already hard at work on her fifth studio album despite parting ways with her record label. “I just needed something new and I’ve earned the right to make my own choices and make my own decisions,” the Destiny’s Child diva told HuffPost Live about leaving Universal Republic. “No hard feelings, I just needed a fresh, new start.”

Not that the “Kisses Down Low”-loving songstress is worried. “There are different offers on the table,” she revealed. “I’m just in the studio on my own and just having a really good time just being creatively free.” What does that mean exactly? It turns out her new music is percussion and brass-heavy. It is also inspired by R&B divas of yesteryear. “I’ve been inspired by the queens that have gone before us, incredibly strong women who aren’t afraid to take risks and just be innovative.”

It’s encouraging that Kelly is finally spreading her wings creatively. Talk A Good Game had some real gems (“Dirty Laundry” for starters) but much of the album was comprised of stale R&B anthems that were frankly beneath her. Best friend Beyonce went through a similar rebirth while recording 4 and delivered something spectacular. Hopefully, Kelly is similarly inspired.

Is this a good move for Kelly? Have your say in the comments below.
