Drake Premieres Studio Version Of “Days In The East”: Listen

A day after dropping the Lauryn Hill-sampling “Draft Day,” Drake returns with another new, free track. This morning (April 3) he premiered the studio version of “Days In The East,” a song which he first debuted at a concert in Birmingham, UK, in March. And it is a mood piece, a slow blur with Drake alternating between his sensitive coo and his more aggressive holler-singing, before jumping into a rap that starts with him having tea with Erykah Badu.

The beat is amorphous as hell, with some light trap percussion skittering over barely-there bits of electronic atmosphere — then for the rap, the percussion drops out and we’re just left with burbles and swirls. It was produced by PARTYNEXTDOOR with an assist from Drake’s guru Noah “40” Shebib.
