Tove Lo: 6 Questions About “Habits,” The ‘Truth Serum’ EP And Her Upcoming Album

Before launching her own promising pop career, Swedish songwriter Tove Lo cut her teeth by penning tracks for other artists (see: Girls Aloud‘s 2012 reunion single “Something New” and Icona Pop‘s “We Got The World”). But it was the 26 year old’s stunning breakout track “Habits” that first caught our attention, last spring. A mix of shiny, uplifting melodies and melancholy lyrics about the loss of love and the bad things we go through in the aftermath, “Habits” and subsequent tracks like “Out Of Mind” signaled that a new pop force was on the scene…one who had a clever way of playing with listeners’ emotions.

Tove Lo stopped by the Idolator studio recently to discuss her recently-released Truth Serum EP (grab it here on iTunes), which contains the top notch re-worked “Stay High” version of “Habits” by Hippie Sabotage, plus five other tracks. She also explained her thoughts on putting together her upcoming debut album, and gave us the lowdown on her various tattoos.

“When I write I kind of need to go into a little bubble and be in that bubble for awhile, and just write and find the storyline,” Lo explained to us. “Obviously the EP is about one relationship, beginning to end — the whole story. So I want the album to be in a similar way, to have that storyline so you can follow through the songs.”
