Tove Lo Reflects On Kurt Cobain & Her Favorite Nirvana Song, “Polly”: Interview

Swedish singer Tove Lo visited the Idolator studio recently to discuss the success of “Habits” and her recently-released Truth Serum EP. And given that she’s made no secret of the fact that she’s a fan of upcoming Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees Nirvana, it seemed fitting, since April 5 marks the 20-year anniversary of Kurt Cobain‘s death, to have a discussion about how she personally discovered the legendary alt-rock band as a youngster.

“My best friend’s older sister was this cool grunge girl, or punk girl, with pink hair,” Tove explained to Idolator. “We looked up to her, so we kind of snuck in her room and stole some of her records, and one of them was the MTV Unplugged gig that [Nirvana] did.”

Tove went on to say that it was the band’s stripped-down rendition of Nevermind track “Polly” from that 1993 performance — in particular, the “melancholy” and “whole emotional vibe of it” — that she fell in love with.
