Beyonce Producer Boots Drops Two New Songs: Listen

Boots is back. The shadowy producer, who was launched into prominence after working on much of Beyonce‘s surprise album, has been releasing his own dark R&B songs in a steady trickle in the months following that LP’s release. Last night (April 8), he dropped a pair of new cuts, “My Heart Is A Stone Today (Unharmed)” and “Sheep/Lookin’ Muthafucka (Lude II).”

“Stone” is a multifaceted piece of pop, starting off as a plaintive piano ballad before some Timbaland-indebted syncopation and synth skronks kick in. Then the track morphs once again, as the synthetic production drops out for acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies, sounding closer to Fleet Foxes.

“Sheep/Lookin’ Muthafucka (Lude II)” is equally schizoid, starting as an atmospheric space strut before a blaring beat kicks in and Boots starts rapping. Hear both new tracks below.
