X priest X Offer Divine Synth-Pop Intervention On “Sophie K”: Listen

It’s a good week for swaying, dreamy synth-pop! Tuesday (April 8) we posted the exclusive stream to the debut EP by synth game newcomers Kinky Love, and today we’ve come across X priest X. While X priest X might be a name suited for a death metal band, they actually make the type of icy and hypnotic stuff that could’ve come straight from the blinding snow of Scandinavia. However, singer Madeline Priest and producer Dave Kazyk improbably hail from Florida (that said, their music found a suitable home on Swedish label Emotion).

After creating some buzz with the beautifully lilting debut single “Isn’t It So,” they’ve released another track from their forthcoming Samurai EP (out April 15), called “Sophie K.” It matches analog ’80s synths and clean female vocals with a modern pop sheen — but instead of applying it to a pulsating strobe, they’ve turned down the BPM and constructed a languid, liquid-metal soundscape, with Priest’s cherubic vocals serving as the emotional anchor.

Hear “Sophie K” below.
