Kanye West Taps Evian Christ For New Album

Kanye West is apparently getting in his zone to finish up his next album, which he’s hoping to release this summer. Concrete details are hard to come by, but now British producer and recent Very G.O.O.D. Beats signee Evian Christ reveals he’s working on new Kanye material, presumably for the Yeezus follow-up. “[Kanye] e-mailed last night. He wants something that sounds a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep,” the beat-maker said in a new interview with self-titled.

Christ was credited on the dark, twisted sex fantasy “I’m In It” off West’s 2013 LP, and it sounds like Ye is interested in similarly polarizing and boundary-pushing sonics for the new album. “Kanye is the one dude who’s like, ‘This is not experimental enough. This is too poppy. Make something else,'” Christ added. “No one else gives you that level of creative freedom. When he wants you to work to a blueprint, the blueprint is: ‘Don’t make a rap beat. Anything but a rap beat.'”

Prior to this, the only names attached to the new Ye album were Rick Rubin (who executive produced Yeezus) and Q-Tip.

UPDATE: Following the inevitable wave of Music Twitter chatter, Evian Christ responded with a tweet clarifying that he still doesn’t know what the new Ye will ultimately sound like and we all shouldn’t “read too much into it.”
