There’s no denying the fact that Pharrell Williamschart-topping smash hit “Happy” has brought joy to millions of people worldwide, and become something of a musical movement. But when Oprah Winfrey presented the in-demand singer-songwriter-producer with a montage clip of “Happy” tributes from around the globe on Sunday’s Oprah Prime, Williams broke down into tears, leaving Winfrey to well up herself and reach for the Kleenex.

“Why am I crying on Oprah,” Pharrell said when he finally gained his composure. Winfrey’s response: “You know, it’s being used for something that’s greater than yourself. I get that.”

Pharrell continued with a shaky voice, “It’s overwhelming because, like, I love what I do, and I just appreciate the fact that, like, people have believed in me for so long — that I could make it to this point, to feel that.”

Pretty humble words for a guy who has basically locked down total radio dominance since last April, between “Happy,” Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines.” Watch the emotional Oprah Prime segment with Pharrell above.
