Bradley Stern | April 25, 2014 6:30 pm

Phew! Well, we somehow made it, Idolator readers: It’s Friday! And today alone was action packed in pop world, from Mariah‘s semi-surprise record drop announcement to Billboard, to J.Lo dishing us the dirt on her upcoming LP over breakfast to RiRi‘s drop dead gorgeous spread for Vogue Brazil. This week saw the pranky-heavy premiere of Katy Perry‘s “Birthday” video, the surprisingly controversial, undeniably WTF-heavy clip for Avril Lavigne‘s “Hello Kitty,” plus the release of two major records by two pop divas: KelisFood and Iggy Azalea‘s The New Classic, which is already set to make a mighty debut next week on the charts.

Speaking of Iggy and Kelis, we’re hooking you guys up with two very special contests: A giveaway of The New Classic AND a giveaway Food on vinyl — plus a Sonos wireless HiFi system. Make sure you enter ’em now! PLUS, we’re hosting a special Twitter takeover (#SirensChat) with the “Sirens” diva herself Cher Lloyd on Tuesday. Please join us!

As always, you guys had plenty to say. Check out the week’s best comments below!

:: Can I Make It Any More Obvious did not see Avril winning the war on Avril Lavigne’s “Hello Kitty” Video Is Probably The Worst Thing You’ll Watch All Week: “It’s a little surprising that Avril thinks she’ll ever have another hit…and even more so that she’s betting on this yowling trash to make it happen. Guess the jilted ex of “Sk8r Boi” is getting the last laugh!”

::While Joseph stood up for Avril’s right to play it cute: “‘Has anyone reminded Avril that she’s nearly 30 lately?’ Oh, cool! We’re being ageist now. If you were to say the same thing about Madonna, you’d have zillions of people jumping down your throat, but I guess Avril’s just an easy target for you. HERE’S TO *NEVER* GROWING UP.”

:: And Peter drew a sugary comparison: “Katy Perry also dresses with cupcakes an nobody starts talking s* about that. #justsaying”

:: ptizzy was PUMPED to hear about Bey’s new single selection on Beyonce Picks “Pretty Hurts” As The Next Single From Her Visual Album: “YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Easily the best song on the album, such an important message that practically everyone can relate to, and the most epic vocals… I can’t with this ***FLAWLESS selection!!!”

:: Scott was not entirely jumping with joy over Mimi’s upcoming record on Mariah Carey Is Planning ‘Beyonce’-Style Release For Her Delayed, Not-Secret Album: “She needs to go back to doing the kind of stuff in the 90′s that made her the best selling artist of that decade, and stop trying to compete with people half her age.”

:: While Alicia demanded to set the record straight about the release deets: “Stop, just stop! Ya’ll are calling this a beyonce like release, when Mariah hasn’t even said that’s what she’s doing!! She has already given her release date AND its only a surprise album in terms of album title, tracklisting, and album cover. So save your snarky comments and just stop.”

:: Chris was perfectly pleased with the tracklisting for Michael Jackson’s posthumous record on Michael Jackson’s Surprisingly Brief ‘Xscape’ Tracklist Has Been Announced: “‘Surprisingly brief’?? Why? There are eight new tracks on the standard edition. One additional track featuring Mary J Blige is on the deluxe edition. So that’s nine tracks. The biggest selling album in the world (Thriller) only had 9 tracks!! Also, it has to be said that when the artists is dead and there is only a finite amount of material to work with, the MJ Estate would be nuts to release too much too soon. It wouldn’t make good business sense.”

:: Sarah was totally unsurprised to see Iggy winning on Iggy Azalea’s ‘The New Classic’ Is Heading For A Top Five Debut On The Billboard 200: “No, I’m not surprised. Iggy has always been the most talented all-around with the better personality and had the most potential to be the bigger star.”

:: Sam wasn’t exactly breaking out the big balloons for Katy’s new single on Katy Perry’s “Birthday” Video: Watch Her Pull Several ‘Bad Grandpa’-esque Pranks: “I’m not the biggest Katy Perry fan, but this song just sounds so beneath her, no? It sounds like a filler song for Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato, not someone who has had many #1 singles. After the highs of “Dark Horse” it seems so underwhelming. Like she had nothing exciting left to release.”

:: And finally, Kristen drew a different conclusion after reading Nicki Minaj‘s subtle “Starships” shade on Nicki Minaj Says “Hell No,” ‘The Pink Print’ Will Not Have A “Starships” Or “Super Bass”: “Well, she basically just confirmed her entire album is gonna flop.”
