Ariana Grande Debuts “Problem” With Sexy Radio Disney Music Awards Performance: Watch

Ari Spices Things Up!
Ariana Grande shook up her sugary sweet image with a (comparatively) sexy debut performance of “Problem” at tonight’s (April 27) Radio Disney Music Awards. Iggy Azalea — the song’s featured femcee — couldn’t be there but that didn’t stop the 20-year-old from stealing the show with her catchy new single and unexpected dance moves.

Happily, the Yours Truly diva left her trademark baby doll dress and kitten heels at home. Ari prowled the stage in a black bodice and fitted pants, which she teamed with white boots and Mickey Mouse ears. It was the perfect outfit for dancing and mini-Mariah showed off some killer moves while still delivering an impressive vocal. “Problem” is an odd blend of ’90s pop and current urban trends (the trap-lite breakdown and a sax hook a la Jason Derulo‘s “Talk Dirty”) but there’s no denying that it’s catchy. Watch up top.

Did Ariana slay the stage or is she still a work in progress? Give your verdict in the comments below.

Ariana totally rocked it at the RDMAs. Not to compare or anything, but her performance kind of reminded me of a young Britney Spears starting out (I thought her outfit reminded me of the red catsuit from the Oops! video, her moves totally made her a “slave” to the music and this performance was like Britney’s VMA 2000 performance of Satisfaction and Oops! where she started to come out of her shell). Ariana is definitely going to be the next big artist and all of the other artists who are coming out now better watch out!

The song was nice and cute, but overall, her performance was mediocre.
She had no energy while she was dancing, and no emphasis on her dance moves. She was being to cute with it and she didn’t execute the choreography good enough. It was very weak. She could have performed much stronger instead of acting afraid to dance. Her singing was good, but the performance level needed improvement. I love Ariana, but someone needs to teach her how to dance full-out. Someone needs to teach her to not only sing well, but perform well. I hope everyone knows what I mean by this. If you watch the performance, you will see what I mean.
