An Alternate Version Of Mariah Carey’s “Almost Home” Surfaces Online: Listen To The Subdued Edit

Mariah Carey‘s “Almost Home” was the most underrated pop ballad of 2013. From the soaring vocal runs to the wind machine abuse in the David LaChapelle‘s stylish video, everything about the Oz The Great And Powerful soundtrack cut was vintage Mimi. As such, I had little interest in an alternate version that recently surfaced online but it actually turned out to be well worth a listen.

Originally produced by Stargate, Mariah’s best power ballad since “Through The Rain” was overhauled by Dapo Torimiro for movie marketing purposes that remain unclear. He tones down “Almost Home” substantially — making it more of a melodic slow jam and less of a fist-clutching exercise in fabulousness. I prefer over-the-top Mimi, so I’ll stick with the original but this is cool too. Have a listen after the jump.
