Mariah Carey’s New Album Has A Completely Absurd Title & Tracklist

Mariah Carey recently opened up to Billboard about her revised album plans, scrapping The Art Of Letting Go and instead resorting to a somewhat condensed marketing strategy which would involve the announcement of the album’s title, tracklist and artwork all at once. Well, the big day is upon us. Last night (April 30), Mariah announced Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, which is out May 27. That is the actual title of her new album, and it is completely insane.

However! In that Billboard interview she said the title comes from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life,” and in the new YouTube clip announcing the news, she explains it’s from a a self-portrait she drew when she was three-and-a-half, and that the drawing serves as the LP’s back cover. So, OK, that sort of takes the edge off. But still, her label’s marketing team couldn’t have been too happy about the choice.

And then there’s the matter of the tracklist. There are guest spots from Wale, Nas, Mary J. Blige and, ugh, R. Kelly. And if you thought a song title with a hashtag in it was annoying, well then your head may explode when you see one contains a period and another is called “Money ($ * / …).”

Check out Mariah’s video with the announcement below, as well as the full tracklist and back cover.
