Aussie Pop Diva Jessica Mauboy Debuts “Sea Of Flags” In Surreal Eurovision Performance: Watch

Eurovision is a much-loved celebration of Europe’s weird and wonderful culture but organizers are clearly trying to broaden their horizons by extending an invitation to Australian pop star Jessica Mauboy. She performed during the interval of tonight’s (May 8) second semi-final after a truly surreal introduction that featured koala bears, kangaroos and… dancing drag queens.

To call the lead-in a hot mess would be generous but the indigenous diva knows how to put on a show and she saved face (and national pride) by delivering a soaring rendition of new single “Sea Of Flags”, which was co-written by Ilan Kidron of synth-pop duo The Potbelleez. The song is completely over-the-top in a Eurovision-appropriate way and Jessica looked (and sounded) great in her glamorous metallic dress, but this is still one of the strangest things you’ll see all week.

Did Jessica escape this debacle with her dignity intact? Have your say in the comments below.
