UPDATE: One Direction’s label has denied reports that Morgan Spurlock is filming a second documentary film with the group. Columbia Records told Billboard the claims are “false,” adding, “[Spurlock] is not involved with any filming with the band. There’s always filming on the road, but not for a second feature film.”

One Direction‘s 3D concert film This Is Us was a big success last year, and now director Morgan Spurlock says they want to capitalize on it with a sequel, which is already filming — and this time he’s aiming for Oscar buzz. Spurlock revealed that a camera crew is following 1D on their current Where We Are world tour, telling The Mirror, “Yes, there will be a follow-up to This Is Us.”

While the band has yet to confirm the news, it sounds pretty legit, since Spurlock is already discussing Academy Award aspirations. “I know [producer] Simon Cowell wants the band to get awards for this and was upset when they missed out on being nominated in the music category for an Oscar on our film,” Spurlock said. “This time he will want them to try again.”

This Is Us was released in August 2013 and debuted at No. 1 in the US, and has gone on to gross $68 million globally.

One Direction wouldn’t be the first guys to try the double-doc trick, but they may want to proceed with caution. Justin Bieber last December released his Never Say Never sequel, Believe, but it grossed just over $6 million — a flop compared to the nearly $100 million gross of its predecessor.

For more insight on what we might expect from the second film, here’s Spurlock talking about what he tried to depict in the first one:
