M.I.A. Shares Unofficial Remix Of Beyonce’s “***Flawless”, Takes A Subtle Dig At The Diva
Now this is all kinds of awkward. M.I.A. took it upon herself to remix Beyonce‘s “***Flawless”, sharing a snippet in early March. I had completely forgotten about her radical overhaul until she posted it on Twitter today (May 13) with the blunt caption: “Beyonce camp has not replied for months”. This is even more embarrassing when you consider that she was signed to Jay Z‘s Roc Nation until recently.
So, was the pioneering femcee rudely snubbed or is the remix just not good enough? There’s no easy answer. M.I.A. does a great job of reinventing the track as a furious rap/EDM hybrid but the source material is almost unrecognizable and Bey’s very specific message has been watered down. The fact that it sampled I Am… Sasha Fierce single “Diva” also worked against it. Listen after the jump.
