Nicki Minaj Talks ‘Forbes’ Claiming Iggy Azalea Runs Hip-Hop: “No Thank You”
While Forbes even changed the headline due to social media backlash (“The author offers sincere apologies to anyone who was offended by it”), the article’s claims remained the same: Iggy Azalea’s rise in the charts has been swift, while Minaj has been “oddly quiet for months.” In response, the “Pills N Potions” star actually cackled. “Okay. I’m reloaded,” she said on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club.
Naturally, The Breakfast Club kicked off its brief chat with by talking about the Pink Print star’s latest output, also including hype tracks “Chiraq” and “Yasss Bish!” (Her recent Powerhouse set could have easily been mentioned, too.) But to recap: Minaj was criticizing Forbes for claiming she’s been “oddly quiet,” not for praising Azalea.
Earlier on, she also reminded Power 105 that she needed time to gain recognition and respect, like any other female rapper entering the scene. “Even when I was grinding and putting out tapes and stuff like that, it was hard for me,” she said. “It was a lot of work. It didn’t just happen overnight. It’s not a female-friendly business. Hip-hop is not female-friendly at all.” See Power 105’s chat with Nicki Minaj below.
