Richard X Produced Erasure’s New Album ‘The Violet Flame’ & So Far It Sounds Fantastic: Watch A Trailer

If longstanding UK synth duo Erasure threw you for a loop by enlisting Frankmusik to produce their last pop album, Tomorrow’s World, then hold on to your hats, because their just-announced follow-up, The Violet Flame, has Richard X at the helm. And we here at Idolator drink from the fountain of X. (See our raving over Annie‘s 2013 The A&R EP.)

Erasure’s Andy Bell and Vince Clarke likely made a good impression of X at some point, since when we interviewed the British producer last year he had this to say about the projects he works on: “If I’m going to be spending time listening and working on music, it’s got to be something I like, or it’s not going to work — so there’s no point for anybody. That’s been my policy from when I started. It’s common sense, but not every producer thinks like that.”

Not much else has been revealed about The Violet Flame just yet, save for its September 23 release date and the fact that a single will be out in July. But you can hear a snippet of what it sounds like when Erasure and Richard X’s musical worlds collide via the album’s very promising teaser trailer above.

Andy and Vince will also support the album with a fall tour of North American and Europe.
