MNEK’s “Wrote A Song About You”: Listen To The ’90s House-Influenced Track
Following the success on Gorgon City’s “Ready For Your Love” as well as the release of his own funk-filled pop-R&B track “Every Little Word,” 19-year-old London soulster MNEK is back with “Wrote A Song About You.” The song premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, and it starts out with just a few piano chords and MNEK’s flawless voice. Suddenly it turns into an infectious ’90s R&B/house dancefloor number, which seems to only further the momentum of the recent house revival movement in the UK.
So, who — or, rather, what — is this tune about exactly? Well, it’s really just a song about writing…a song.
“None of my songs start out to be autobiographical.” MNEK explains to FADER. “In this case, it wasn’t about anyone, it’s more like creative writing.”
