Karmin Covers ‘Grease’ Classic “Summer Nights” For Twizzlers Commercial

Karmin can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes (I was even here for them performing on the roof of a McDonald’s bus!) but their cover of Grease classic “Summer Nights” gets two thumbs down from me. Nick and Amy tackle the much-loved Olivia Newton-John/John Travolta duet for a Twizzlers commercial and the result could be mistaken for really bad karaoke.

I’m sure the idea sounded good on paper. (After all, how many boy/girl combos are there?) But Karmin’s cover jumped the shark when someone decided to turn the ultimate sing-a-long song into a tinny dance anthem. The production just doesn’t work and the duo goes through the motions vocally. Let’s hope this is never officially released. Listen after the jump.

What the heck is this?? I am so lost in the production it is ridiculous. They are so desperate for a hit record. I feel sorry for them. I am thinking maybe acting would be a better focus. Sorry!

There are parts of this song that are amazing, but some that take away what made this song a classic

I think it’s fine. and they already have hit records by the way. I’m not expecting this fantastic hit cover. Besides, it’s just a commercial.
