Justice Crew’s “Que Sera” Has Been Number One In Australia For 7 Weeks: Does It Have Global Appeal?

With songs like MKTO‘s “Classic”, Lorde‘s “Royals”, Passenger‘s “Let Her Go” and MAGIC!‘s “Rude” exploding in the southern hemisphere months before reaching the airwaves over here, Australia and New Zealand are increasingly viewed by labels as a test market (of sorts) for the US. Which makes a song spending its seventh consecutive week atop the ARIA singles chart particularly noteworthy.

Justice Crew were Australia’s biggest boy/man band until 5 Seconds Of Summer blew up. They started as a dance troupe but transitioned into music after winning Australia’s Got Talent. After a slow start, they struck gold with “Boom Boom” and have notched a string of top 10 hits. It’s hard to pin point why “Que Sera”, which was penned by MAGIC! frontman Nasri Atweh, has been so massive but it probably has a lot to do with the familiarity of the sing-a-long chorus and the more accessible mid-tempo production.
