2014 BET Awards: Beyoncé, Jay Z & Iggy Azalea Perform, Nicki Shades + Full List Of Winners
Awards! Live performances! Shade! Last night’s 2014 BET Awards brought the action once again this year.
It was an especially big night for Beyoncé fans last night — but then again, when isn’t it a time for celebration as a Beyhive member? Queen Bey led the pack by winning not one, but three awards of the night including the “Fandemonium” Award, followed by a sexy surprise (pre-taped) performance of “Partition” with Jay Z live from Miami’s On The Run Tour (which we attended!) to close out the show.
Other major performances of the night included Nicki Minaj‘s trippy-as-hell performance of “Chi-Raq” into “Pills N Potions” (there was a giant mushroom in the middle of the stage!), Usher‘s career-spanning hit medley — from “Nice And Slow” to “Good Kisser,” Chris Brown‘s return to the stage for the first time since jail with a choreography-filled performance of “Loyal” alongside Lil Wayne, Tyga and Travis Barker (?!), Iggy Azalea and T.I.‘s “No Mediocre” and Pharrell‘s cheerleader-filled #BaeUniversity opening of “Come Get It Bae” (hey, where’s Gwen?), which led into a killer mash-up with none other than Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott‘s classic, “Pass That Dutch.” “The Empress!” Pharrell dubbed Missy before welcoming her to the stage. And really, what would an award show be without some controversy? Last night’s came in the form of Nicki Minaj, who may or may not have come for a certain Aussie femcee and her “authenticity” during Minaj’s acceptance speech for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” she clarified to the crowd before flipping her hair and declaring: “No, no, no shade.”
