ASTR Puts A Chilly Spin On Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap”: Listen

ASTR‘s on a major roll as of late: After premiering their Miami Vice-inspired visual for “Blue Hawaii” with us late last month, the NYC electro-duo’s just returned to deliver a stomping reinterpretation of one of our very favorite summer jams of 2014: Charli XCX‘s The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack anthem, “Boom Clap.” (Speaking of, did you catch her performance of the track on this morning’s Today Show?)

The troupe’s reinterpretation drags the song down into the chilly depths of the club, providing some drippy beats, trap-lite hi-hats and pounding drum loops. (Actually, it’s a little reminiscent of the “Fancy” beat!) Charli’s vocals also get sent through the ringer on the remix; her rowdy chants are now chopped and screwed into demonically distorted vocals, stuttering yelps and moans. It’s a much darker side of “Boom Clap” — but no less fantastic.

Listen to ASTR’s remix of Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” below, and let us know what you think of the re-rub in the comments after the jump.
