Katy Perry Hit The Studio With Major Lazer

Diplo recently hinted that Major Lazer‘s next album will feature “a lot of big name acts.” Could Katy Perry be one of them? Roots reggae blog Jah Blem Muzik caught up with Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire to talk Mad Decent signee Jesse Royal‘s new mixtape Royally Speaking. Apparently, when Perry joined them in the studio, she knew the words to Royal’s 2013 song “This Morning.”

“The funniest moment was having Katy Perry in the studio singing, ‘Woke up this morning feeling so blessed,’ and writing a whole song to the RootsMan Riddim while Jesse did the dub for [his song] ‘Modern Day Judas,’” Walshy Fire said. “Watching her catch that reggae vibe was the best part of recording.” What remains to be seen, then, is whether Perry wrote that song for Royal or Major Lazer.

Regardless of where that song ends up, though, it’s bound to be an inspired collaboration. As CBS Radio points out, Perry sang her praises of Major Lazer’s “Bubble Butt” before she played it during her recent iTunes Radio guest DJ set. The way she incessantly repeats the hook (“Bubble butt, bubble bubble bubble butt”) on air – now that’s love. Hear her introduction to “Bubble Butt” below.
