Could Katy Perry be starring in a Clueless musical? Director Amy Heckerling recently revealed that, while she’s in the early stages of planning a Broadway adaptation of the classic 1995 film, she has already decided that the Prism star would be her ideal Cher Horowitz. “Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death,” Heckerling says to Vulture.

She has also thought of another possible star, in case Perry’s schedule conflicts with her own. “Maybe Iggy wants to do it!” she said – of course, referring to Iggy Azalea. Turns out, Heckerling loves how Azalea paid tribute to Clueless in her “Fancy” video. “It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie,” she said. “But I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing.”

Music videos are rumored to have been a key source of inspiration for Heckerling. While Clueless star Alicia Silverstone got her start on The Wonder Years and The Rush, the filmmaker reportedly told casting agents to seek “that girl from the Aerosmith videos.” Silverstone had starred in three of them, for “Cryin,” “Amazing” and “Crazy.”

Who would make for the better Cher, Katy Perry or Iggy Azalea? Revisit the original Clueless trailer below, then sound off in the comments.
