Taylor Swift is real — you know, like the King Of Pop. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry? They just make disposable garbage. Or at least so muses fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff in GQ, with which he took part in an interview to promote his new album Strange Desire with side project Bleachers.

Antonoff puts it this way to the men’s publication: “Taylor Swift is cool, because she’s the closest thing today that hearkens to Michael Jackson — to great, great pop music. There’s a difference between her and Gaga and Katy Perry and Lily Allen and all that. It all feels throwaway, comparatively.”

Interestingly, this very sentiment — the lack of real depth and overall superficiality in pop — is something Lily Allen herself explored recently with her own song “Hard Out Here” and its accompanying music video. Maybe Jack Antonoff didn’t catch that one?

Jack also adds praise for Kanye West in his GQ piece: “I love Yeezus. I think it’s one of the coolest-sounding things ever. And I think Taylor Swift is one of the best songwriters ever.”

Ironically, Katy Perry presented Antonoff and the rest of fun. with their Best New Artist award at the Grammys in 2013:

Funny that Jack was the only one from the band to give Katy a hug in the Grammys clip above.
