Avicii Plans To Go Rock On The Follow-Up To Debut LP ‘True’

Avicii redefined the sound of (mainstream) EDM with debut LP True by blending folk/acoustic elements (see smash hits “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother”) into his heady synthscape. The Swedish hitmaker is determined to repeat the feat again — by collaborating with a series of rockers including Jon Bon Jovi, Serj Tankian of System Of A Down and Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong on his sophomore set.

There’s even a reggae song on the opus featuring Wyclef Jean and Matisyahu.”It’s going to be a lot more song-oriented,” Avicii says of the album. “True was an attempt at that, getting electronic music in a song format.” I’m not sure how I feel about this. The 24-year-old’s collaboration with Coldplay was surprisingly great but the idea of Serj Tankian voicing a club anthem makes my blood run cold. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
