5 Seconds Of Summer Deliver A Surprisingly Sweet Cover Of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”: Watch
With the self-titled debut LP dropping this week, 5 Seconds Of Summer has ramped up the promo with a slew of live appearances including a mini-concert on the Today Show and an excursion to SiriusXM Hits 1 to perform a bunch of hits and a surprise cover of Katy Perry‘s seminal pop anthem “Teenage Dream”. And they did it justice.
The Aussie band stripped the song back to basics, delivering an acoustic version with a slight rock twist. Katy’s mega-hit survives the genre transition effortlessly and it’s nice to hear “Teenage Dream” performed by actual teenagers. 5SOS can’t lose at the moment. According to early predictions, their album will debut at number one on the Billboard 200 with sales of 250,000+ copies.
