MAGIC!’s “Rude” Gets Remixed By Zedd At Lollapalooza: Listen
Zedd breathed new life into MAGIC!‘s No. 1 hit “Rude” by remixing it during his August 1 Lollapaloooza set.
Essentially, the German producer transformed the reggae-leaning pop song into a rollercoaster of a dance anthem. He ditched the song’s original backbeat for chugging synths, fizzy melodies and whooshes necessary to make “Rude” feel like a momentous occasion – as it should have, given that his set was one of the night’s last.
While Zedd’s remix was unexpected in of itself, his approach was likely exactly how fans of his 2012 debut Clarity would have imagined it’d turn out. Whether remixing for Lady Gaga (“G.U.Y.”) and Black Eyed Peas or producing for Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande (“Break Free”), Zedd’s approach to music is often to stick with conventional pop melodies, but then add as many EDM pyrotechnics as possible.
