Taylor Swift’s New Album Is Called ‘1989’ & Other Amazing Revelations From Her Yahoo Livestream

Taylor Swift is going pop. America’s sweetheart premiered her new Max Martin/Shellback-produced single “Shake It Off” during her Yahoo livestream and then revealed the title and release date of her fifth album. It’s called 1989 because that’s the year of Tay’s birth and the era she explores on the new opus. Yes, the former-country queen is releasing a collection of late ’80s pop songs!

Why? Well, Taylor said she fell in love with the bright colors and bold sounds of the late ’80s, calling it a time of endless possibility. And if “Shake It Off” is any indication, it’s an inspired choice. Other fascinating tidbits from the livestream include the unveiling of her 1989 album cover (see it after the jump) as well as its release date (October 27). The 24-year-old also debuted the dance-themed video for “Shake It Off” and details about the deluxe edition.

For starters, you will get voice memos from Taylor’s phone. So you’ll hear an idea, a melody or some words (ie. the origin of the song) and then be able to play the record and listen to the finished product. How innovative! As for the video? It’s a choreography-heavy affair that features her fans and a ballerina costume. It borders on cheesy but that’s surely part of the diva’s appeal.
