After the announcement of Cobra Starship‘s comeback track “Never Been In Love” last week, the Icona Pop-assisted banger has arrived. And how does it fare?

While the track had the potential to suffer from ‘EDM’ overload to keep up with current trends, it’s not that at all, really: Instead, the Wallpaper.-produced cut is actually a punchy party anthem, full of infectious piano melodies, hand claps, na-na-na‘s aplenty and a soaring hook of a chorus: “I know now…I’ve never been in love before you!” Some listeners in the YouTube comments have pointed out that it’s got a similar vibe to Fatboy Slim‘s “Praise You,” and there’s good reason for that: It’s sampled in the song!

“I had been listening to a lot of early 90’s UK artists — Jesus Jones, EMF, George Michael. It was a time when bands first started incorporating break beats and electronic elements into their music. I had been trying to find a way to modernize that sound,” Saporta explains of the track. Of course, the Icona Pop girls supply their usual fare of rowdy, sing/shout-along vocal skills to add some extra punch to the track, resulting in what will likely be the latest addition to your rager playlists.
