Maroon 5 Covers Marcy Playground’s ’90s Classic “Sex And Candy”: Listen To The ‘V’ Bonus Track

The dudes from Maroon 5 were obviously feeling nostalgic when they recorded V. Lead single “Maps” is a welcome throwback to moody reggae/rock of The Police, while uptempo buzz track “It Was Always You” taps into the shadowy synth-rock of bands like The Killers. Need more proof? Just take a listen to one of the album’s (rather great) bonus tracks.

I’m talking about the group’s cover of Marcy Playground‘s “Sex And Candy”. A top 10 in 1997, the song lives on a post-grunge classic that is still played with alarming frequency on adult rock radio stations today. As such, my gut instinct is that Maroon 5 should have left it alone but their faithful version is a well-executed reminder that the late ’90s were, well, completely awesome. Listen after the jump.

Do you love Maroon 5′s version or is the original still the best? Have your say in the comments below.
