Afrojack has plenty of thoughts on the state of music today.

After performing at the Made In America festival in Los Angeles over the weekend, the Dutch DJ-producer, who is heading out to Europe for the remainder of the year, opened up to Billboard about the uninspired state of EDM in America: “Here in America, they just figured out the hard kicks and everyone is like, ‘Oh my god, the hard kicks.’ I’ve been doing that for 10 years, and I don’t want to do that, so in Europe I can play a different set than in America. Right now, the whole EDM culture is really hard-kick powered,” he lamented.

No more hard-kicks. Got it. So what sound does he want to hear on the radio? Look no further than his rejected remix of Katy Perry‘s latest hit, “This Is How We Do.”

“I actually did a remix for Katy Perry and her management didn’t respond. I was like, ‘F— it, I’ll take it back.’ And everyone was crazy about the remix…that’s what I think is the new pop sound. That’s what I think is gonna be cool on the radio. For me that remix is the sound I want to have on the radio within a year,” the Forget The World producer explained.

The heavily mixed and mashed remix certainly goes hard, especially once that M.I.A.-like beat breakdown comes crashing into the speakers.

Is this what you’d like radio to sound like next year? Sound off in the comments below.
