After capping off their highly successful, endlessly headline-generating On The Run Tour in Paris, Beyoncé and Jay Z are still finding new ways to bring their vision to fans, beginning with Part One of Bang Bang, a mini-film shot in support of their tour.

Today, the superstar duo debuted the first piece of the visual, directed by photographer/filmmaker Dikayl Rimmasch. Inspired by “French new wave cinema and the powerful intimacy of legendary independent director and mentor Les Blank,” the captivating clip sees the two hitting the dusty trail for some high-speed car rides (and a quick diner stop) in the vintage 2-minute clip — and yes, there’s an underlying meaning to this duo’s Bonnie & Clyde-esque styling.

From the NOWNESS interview with the director: “In my first conversation on the telephone with Jay Z he explained his concept of On the Run. He said: ‘We’re not trying to do this literally, it’s not that we’re Bonnie and Clyde. We’re on the run from everything. On the run from becoming a cliché. On the run from doing the same thing again.’ Everything he mentioned was a level of consciousness he has for staying alive as an entertainer and as a human being. He wanted to keep it more abstract because for him it was very abstract. How do you stay new, not just to your audience but also yourself?”
