VÉRITÉ’s “Weekend” Gets A Suitably Gloomy Video: Watch The Cliche-Filled Tragedy Unfold

VÉRITÉ is quietly carving out a niche as the queen of melancholy pop. The budding New York diva inhabits a previously unoccupied middle ground between the sadcore leanings of Lana Del Rey and the ethereal electro-pop of Ellie Goulding that is utterly enchanting. Buzz single “Strange Enough” showed potential but new single “Weekend” is absolutely undeniable. One listen and you’re hooked.

The video is less convincing. VÉRITÉ opts for a mysterious approach, remaining in the shadows for most of “Weekend”. I like those sequences because they suit the song’s ominous undercurrent but the teenage cliches that play out in the back/side story seem better suited to a Taylor Swift clip. That is until everything goes very wrong at the end. Watch after the jump.
