Jessie J‘s career had just about flatlined until she hooked up with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj on “Bang Bang”. The track is a monster hit — it reached a new peak of number three on the Billboard Hot 100 this week — and has everyone excited for the Brit’s third LP Sweet Talker. So why is she systematically editing out her collaborators?
The 26-year-old dropped a rap-free edit of the smash a couple of weeks ago — bye, Nicki! — and today (September 30) a solo version arrived online. It’s always fascinating to hear different versions of a good song and Jessie easily carries “Bang Bang” on her own. The verses sound a little clumsy but her vocal runs are on point. As usual.
