Andre 3000 stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman last night (October 2) to discuss his role playing Jimi Hendrix, in the biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side. Calling him “the coolest person in the world,” the entertainer said he was nervous to take on the part.

He also talks about discovering Hendrix’s music later on in his teens, as well as a few stories about the rock legend. “I was watching Apocalypse Now, and there’s a helicopter scene where it’s over going over the land,” he told Letterman. “There’s this music going on, I think it was ‘All Along The Watchtower,’ and I heard these solos. I was like, “Woah, what is this?”

Along with promoting his new film, 3 Stacks is currently wrapping up his Outkast reunion tour with Big Boi – stopping at Austin City Limits, San Fransisco’s Treasure Island Music Festival, Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful and New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience.
