Brayton Bowman Brings The Funk With New Single “Runaway”: Idolator Premiere

Today we’re premiering Brayton Bowman‘s “Runaway,” the latest song off his debut EP HERE | NOW! The 21-year-old Philadelphia native follows up his first single, “Jaywalk,” with a danceable groove that takes classic elements of ’70s funk and transforms them for modern day. The syncopated electric guitar riffs and heavy drum patterns provide the perfect backdrop for Bowman’s velvety vocals. It is a definite (and much-welcomed) departure from the techno dominance occurring in pop music.

“‘Runaway’ is basically my attempt at a call-out & a love song at the same time,” Bowman said about the single. “It’s about this man who sort of emotionally experiments with the idea of being gay through our ‘friendship’ if you can call it that.” He is inspired by artists like Stevie Wonder and Amy Winehouse, and references his sound as somewhere in between soul-pop and future-funk.

Listen to “Runaway” below, and look out for HERE | NOW by Thanksgiving.
