Aretha Franklin Covers Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”: Listen

After her soulful take on Adele‘s hit “Rolling In The Deep,” Aretha Franklin is back with a new cover – this time, it’s Gloria Gaynor‘s “I Will Survive.” Franklin transforms the disco diva’s song into a fresh and modern track that fits right in with 2014’s R&B scene.

She manages to tone down her powerful voice and gently cruises on the beat, with her vocals soaring in and out of the track. All of sudden, the bass drops and Franklin injects a hip-hop tinged dose of Destiny’s Child‘s “I’m A Survivor.” It is totally unexpected and very awesome.

This cover, among many, are part of the Queen of Soul’s forthcoming album Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics. Look out for it on October 21, and listen to the diva’s version of “I Will Survive” below.
