Hozier Performs “Take Me To Church” And “Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene” On ‘Saturday Night Live’: Watch

Hozier has scored one of 2014’s least likely hits with gut-wrenching love song/break-up anthem (it’s a bit of both) “Take Me To Church”, which is steadily moving up the Billboard Hot 100 in the wake of a canny TV sync and compelling live performances. The Irish newcomer, who recently dropped a self-titled debut LP to near universal acclaim, sang his breakthrough smash on Saturday Night Live tonight (October 11) and absolutely nailed it.

After a slightly shaky start, Andrew Hozier-Byrne (his real name) soon settled down and slowly cast a spell with his gravelly voice and (mostly) female band. “Take Me To Church”, with it’s gritty subject matter and gospel overtones, is a breath of fresh air on radio among all the club-bangers and party jams. Amazingly, it sounds even better live. Watch that up top and check out album track “Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene” after the jump.
