Ugly Kids Club’s “Head Games” Video: Idolator Premiere

Despite the name, Ugly Kids Club are making real pretty pop.

The rising Nashville synth-pop duo — made up of singer Aliegh Shields and Grammy Award-nominated rock producer Steve Wilson (The Juliana Theory, Jonezetta) — first got together back in 2011 through a mutual friend (Aliegh’s brother), sharing a love for acts like Sleigh Bells and The Kills. And while the partnership started as work on Aliegh’s solo music, the two soon began forging a sound together as a duo, in what would eventually become The Ugly Kids Club.

Following the release of their self-titled EP back in 2012, the troupe returned last month with the Head Games EP, a second collection of rock-tinged, fiercely catchy electronic pop cuts, bringing acts like Chvrches to mind. And today, we’re bringing you the video premiere of the EP’s lush title track, “Head Games.”

The moody Jason Lee Denton and Steve Voss-directed clip sees the duo pulling faces in front of the stars, casting shadows and jogging through the darkness for their catchy anthem. Really though, let’s talk about head games: just try and get that chorus out of your head any time soon.

Check out the video for “Head Games” up top, and if you like what you’re seeing and hearing, catch the duo out on the road at their upcoming tour stops below.
