And the award for the messiest/awesomest (is that even a word?) TV performance of 2014 goes to Miley Cyrus and The Flaming Lips for their mind-bending destruction of The Beatles‘ “A Day In The Life” on Conan. Everything about this trainwreck is terrible — did they even do a soundcheck? — yet undeniably watchable and wildly entertaining.
The performance, which airs tonight (November 6), begins with Wayne Coyne belting out the classic anthem in a huge metallic robe. Miley then crawls out from underneath it and sings her verse completely out of tune before snuggling up to her much older BFF. I’m still struggling to process what I saw but it makes me oddly excited for their rumored joint album. Watch up top.
