Denyse Tontz Falls In Love With “Mr. Hipster”: Idolator Premiere

Better watch out for Denyse Tontz — especially if you’re a hipster boy.

You might already recognize the rising 20-year-old singing and dancing starlet for her roles on Big Time Rush, Dog with a Blog or All My Children, or her early indie-pop cuts like “Better Than Nothing” or “Use It,” or perhaps even from some paparazzi photos taken while out with her ex-BF Mark Salling, who plays Puck on Glee.

Now, Denyse is preparing to step out into the music scene with her debut EP in early 2015, beginning with a song called “Mr. Hipster.” Any guesses what it’s about?

Similar to Katy Perry‘s early roots with her cheeky “Ur So Gay,” the guitar-led pop cut pokes fun at her beau, throwing out dozens of hipster-friendly references — think tattoos, yoga and Tolstoy. (“He’s gluten-free…and no soy!”) But ugh, she just can’t help but swoon: “Help! I’m under some kind of spell/Don’t you make me say it, I won’t say it, fine I’ll say it/Baby, I’m in love with a…” she sing-songs. Don’t make her say it!

From Denyse: “‘Mr. Hipster’ is my tribute to America’s hipsters. We love to hate ’em but hate that we secretly love it when they recite flawless Mark Twain and stare at us moodily whilst eating tofu in all their unshaven glory. The idea for this song actually spawned while I was working in New York on a soap (for which I won my first Emmy, cough, working in some shameless self promotion, cough.) During my free time I’d explore the city and usually found myself in Brooklyn where I eventually fell for–surprise–a hipster.” What a match made in Williamsburg!
