Sheryl Crow Wasn’t A Fan Of Jennifer Lopez’s Performance At The American Music Awards: “Less Pole Dancing Please”
Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea closed the American Music Awards last night (November 23) with a jaw-dropping performance of Diplo-produced club-banger “Booty”. It was generally praised as one of the best moments of an otherwise lackluster night but the sexy spectacle obviously didn’t sit well with Sheryl Crow. The veteran singer/songwriter jumped on Twitter to ask for: “More real singing, less pole dancing please.”
She was referring to the segment where J.Lo and Iggy twirled around a stripper pole in swimsuits/leotards. While I agree with Sheryl about the singing — the whole night was littered with underwhelming vocal performances — it seems odd that she would use her platform for misguided slut-shaming. Jennifer sang live while dancing around the stage like a woman possessed and still managed to look sexy, powerful and in control. She also deserves props for being only one of two women over 40 (the other being Mary J. Blige) considered relevant enough to perform at the AMAs.
