Sam Smith brought his velvety-smooth vocals to The Ellen Degeneres Show today (December 1), and performed one of his much-loved tunes — “I’m Not The Only One.” Donning a tried-and-true classic suit, the crooner effortlessly sung the melodic ballad.

After the performance, he sat down with the talk show host to discuss his decision to come out as gay just before he launched In The Lonely Hour. Smith explained, “It didn’t feel like a coming out. I came out when I was like 4 years old. My mom said she knew when I was like three. So I didn’t have to actually properly come out. I kind of just felt like I needed to mention it before I released the record so people knew what it was about.”
