Wayne Coyne On Working With Miley Cyrus: “She’s Really In The Mode Of Doing Whatever The Fuck She Wants”
If you’ve had a look at Miley Cyrus‘ Instagram account in the last year or so, you know exactly how tight she is with Flaming Lips‘ head-weirdo Wayne Coyne. The twerkin’ 22-year-old has already lent her vocals to a number of tracks on the band’s Beatles tribute album and has expressed her desire to work with the alt-rock legends on her next LP. It sounds like an unlikely development given her success in the urban-pop space, but the Bangerz diva is just fucks-free enough to do it.
“She’s just really started,” Wayne said of Miley’s next opus in an interview with Stereogum. “We’re definitely going to make some music together… she already has a bunch of songs. She’s a pretty good songwriter. She’s got some peeps around that can easily turn something simple into something that can be produced pretty quick.” So, what direction is the new music taking? “She’s really in the mode of doing whatever the fuck she wants.”
“I think as the next couple years go, people will see all these sides of her… I think it’ll be the way Bjork made those first three or four records, where it was ahead of its time but it was beautiful and exotic and strange and she’s a freak,” he elaborates. “I think it’ll probably be something like that.” Wayne also makes the point that Miley is in the position to do whatever she wants. “She’s so powerful and so rich. I run into a lot of people who want to do cool shit but they don’t have any power, and they don’t have any say over what’s going on.”
