Miley Cyrus debuted an original song when she performed at Miami Beach’s Art Basel. Prior to “The Twinkle Song,” she stormed the stage to Rick James“Superfreak,”  and in an outfit to match: a tinsel wig, sheer tights and a barely-there unitard. Later, she would invite The Flaming LipsWayne Coyne (above) and a man dressed as a penis onstage. As to be expected, the Bangerz star’s showcase was a spectacle.

As a new video shows, though, “The Twinkle Song” made for an unexpectedly touching moment. It’s a tender piano ballad, inspired by dreams she had after her friend’s cat died. According to her lyrics, one such dream was of David Bowie teaching them all to skateboard, but while somehow shaped like Gumby. Another wasn’t as sweet: “And I had a dream that you were dying … You sang me to sleep, you sang me to sleep / But what does it mean, what does it all mean?”

Remember, Cyrus knows how it feels to have a beloved pet die suddenly. During a Bangerz tour stop, she broke down while standing by a story-tall replica of her deceased dog, Floyd. Watch her debut “The Twinkle Song” at Art Basel below.
