Jennifer Lawrence Debuts At #12
Jennifer Lawrence debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with "The Hanging Tree".

Jennifer Lawrence landed the surprise hit of 2014 when her contribution to James Newton Howard‘s Hunger Games: Mocking Jay, Pt. 1 score, a severely depressing hymn called “The Hanging Tree,” landed at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. (It could go even higher next week given that it’s still hovering around the iTunes top five). Co-penned by Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins and a couple of members of The Lumineers, the bleak lullaby has now been overhauled for the dance floor. Because too much J. Law is never enough.

So, who is responsible for transforming the “The Hanging Tree” into a club-banger? Israeli DJ Shahaf Moran, who has build a strong online following by turning pop songs (including Beyonce’s “Grown Woman” and “Blow”) into perky floorfillers. He actually does a pretty great job of creating a dark and mysterious electronic instrumental for the track. With the official stems, this could actually sound pretty great. Listen to the surprisingly non-horrific remix after the jump.
