Did You Hear?

:: With her insanely successful 1989 LP, there is no surprise that Taylor Swift would top many “Best Of” or “Most Influential” lists in 2014. The singer’s latest feat comes across the pond, as she’s been crowned the Most Powerful Woman In UK Media. Part of the reason came from removing her discography from Spotify. [THR]

:: Speaking of year-end lists, our friends at Spin have announced Sia as their Artist of the Year! They wrote:

Most important, though, is the often contradictory way she vacillates between ubiquity and anonymity that makes her the premier player of the year. The 38-year-old has simultaneously kept her demons at bay — alcoholism, pill addiction, Grave’s Disease, manic depression, the death of then-boyfriend Dan Pontifex — and successfully transitioned from an in-demand songwriter to an equally sought-after solo artist. In essence, she solidified 2014 as the Year of the Songwriter.”

:: Remember Gwen Stefani‘s controversial crew of Harajuku Girls? Well, it turns out the singer has no regrets! Despite them being a mark of cultural appropriation pre-Katy Perry, Stefani states: “For me, everything that I did with the Harajuku Girls was just a pure compliment and being a fan. You can’t be a fan of somebody else? Or another culture? Of course you can.” [TIME]

:: Green Day‘s Jason White has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Fortunately, his doctors expect a speedy recovery as the cancer is treatable. The guitarist became a permanent member of the band in 2012. [Consequence Of Sound]
