Idolator's editors select 20 great singles from the past 12 months.

This year started off with the last #1 song of 2013 on the Billboard Hot 100 — Eminem and Rihanna‘s “The Monster” — carrying over as the first #1 song of 2014. Other past chart-topping artists racked up more #1s this year, including Kesha, Pitbull, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, while new acts like MAGIC! and Meghan Trainor shot straight to the top with their debut singles.

And then there was “Fancy,” which brought an Aussie rapstress together with a British hit-maker for an inescapable pop jam that ruled the airwaves all spring- and summer-long and wound up with several big Grammy nominations by year’s end.
