What’s in a name? In up-and-coming rapper Joey Bada$$‘s case, a lot. Ahead of the Brooklyn MC’s 20th birthday on January 20, not to mention the release of his debut LP B4.Da.$$ on the same date, he’s reportedly been arrested following an altercation on January 2 at the Falls Music Festival near Byron Bay, in New South Wales, Australia.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the rapper, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Scott, allegedly punched a security guard in the face just before taking the stage at the fest for his 8:30 p.m. set.

Says the Herald:

Badass reportedly lashed out after he was challenged by the guard.

“A 20-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face by a man while working as a security guard at the festival,” confirmed a police spokeswoman. “The man was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries.”

Badass was arrested by Byron Bay Police after his performance and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“He was refused bail and appeared at Lismore Bail Court on Saturday,” said the spokeswoman.

The publication notes that Bada$$ was bailed out of jail, but is due back to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on March 19.

Kiesza, Action Bronson and Elle Varner will all appear as features on Joey’s upcoming album. Bada$$ recently appeared on Kiesza’s own debut, Sound Of A Woman, where he provided a rap on the track “Bad Thing.”
